Art  OUR  way

2018  WorkshopS

High school students worked with Columbus Professionals for three consecutive weekends to explore a variety techniques and artistic mediums. The resulting work, individual and collaborative installation pieces, were presented in a multimedia exhibition open to the public.

Students created a community of shared experiences; while interacting and working with creative professionals currently working in art based fields. Students developed  pride in their creative accomplishments and practiced speaking professionally about their art.

Describe your experience with Art Your Way:

“It was a very safe space, I loved it, and I had emotional support from my peers in the workshops. It was positive and I got to know them. It was a 10/10 experience.”

Why did you choose to join AYW?

“I’m always looking for art experiences, and my art teacher encouraged me to go. Plus I’ve always dremt of being part of something that was anti-bullying, and the workshops sounded cool.”

Would you say the workshops helped you grow creatively?

“Definitely. I got creative freedom, which I usually don’t get in art class because we have to do specific projects. AYW prompted thoughts about having an artistic future. I originally was considering science or military options. The workshops also helped me experience new tools and mediums, like chalk pastels, which I’d previously never worked with.”

Describe your experience with Art Your Way:

“My experience was overall positive. I was super shy during the workshops and didn’t talk much to my peers, but I enjoyed taking pictures of them all and using new Photoshop techniques I learned there. When I did manage to come out of my shell a little, the others were very friendly to me.”

Why did you choose to join AYW?

“My dad encouraged me to sign up for the workshops. Originally I was anxious, but I decided to go for it, and I’m glad I did. I made the choice to join because I knew it would be a great first step to getting my photography out there, and learning how to improve it even more.”

Would you say the workshops helped you grow creatively?

“Yes. The workshops helped me learn new Photoshop techniques and share my work with other people. I was also encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and do some chalk pastel doodles.”

Would you say the workshops helped you grow creatively?

“Definitely. I did my first painting piece, and I've done more since then and I've been getting into drawing, but I've been focusing more on graphic design."
